Munich Personalities – Between Weißwurst and Madness
There are two kinds of people in Munich. Those who consider themselves normal, and those who are truly interesting – they are affectionately called “originals.” They are as much a part of the city as the English Garden and the Glockenspiel at Marienplatz.
When you delve into Munich’s history, you repeatedly come across personalities who were already called Munich originals in their time. What do all these Munich originals have in common? They lived in their own world, but somehow also in ours and fascinated people in their time with their striking ways. They were admired, but also hated andsoared high and sometimes failed. But their traces remain to this day, reminding us that Munich is alive. They had the courage to be different and to do something that made them famous in their time.
For every city, these characters are true cultural treasures. Maybe a little crazy—but honest, warm, and with a sense of humor as dry as an Augustiner Hell on a hot July day. On this page, I present my highlights of some of Munich’s originals.
If you would like to discover the traces left behind by these originals with me, please contact me. I look forward to marveling and laughing with you.
